Heating OIL
Know your options.
Heating oil has been used for generations in canada. Oil appliances are much more efficient these days, so this might still be the choice that makes sense for you.
Most heating oil products are chemically very similar to the diesel fuel used in motor fuel. It is a low viscosity, liquid petroleum product used as a fuel oil for furnaces or boilers in buildings. These days, oil burning appliances are more efficient than the old oil burners which gave oil burning a bad name. It is reported that old units ran at about 70% efficiency, whereas today’s new models can deliver a rating of up to 86% efficiency.
Installation Considerations
You will need a certified storage tank installed in a position that trucks can easily access during all seasons. The installation process will be dependent on the type of oil burning system you decide to utilize. Contact a home comfort specialist to have them assess your home and to see if radiator, baseboard or furnace oil system is right for you.
Environmental Considerations
It’s no secret that it takes a tremendous amount of energy to get oil to your home. From extracting the crude oil, refining and then transporting it to your home, there is a high impact on the environment. Although appliances have improved to burn more efficiently, oil is still lagging behind other options for environmental efficiency and lowering your carbon footprint. If you are environmentally conscious, you may want to look at heat pumps as an alternative option.
Lifestyle Considerations
Assuming you have a reliable supplier to deliver your oil, this should be a fairly simple system to incorporate into your home. The most important part of operating your home on oil is having a proven reliable company, such as Edward Fuels, to deliver your fuel.
